As I write this for the newsletter, I am finally to the point where I automatically write “2020”, and no longer “2019”. Change is tough, but I find that it keeps my brain healthy and elastic.
ASET President Connie Kubiak
Part of the theme of this newsletter, is being ‘green’ at the workplace. As a Travel Tech, I have been to locations who provide varied green services. Some have had their own departments which cover recycling and green living, and others, none. To do my part, I use a reusable water bottle and coffee cup as I work. Personally, I use very little to be thrown away later, I recycle what I can and I donate those items I no longer have a need for (clothing, furniture, household items, etc.). Growing up in the north, I was taught to turn off lights in rooms as I’m leaving, wear a sweater instead of turning up the heat, use a fan instead of lowering the A/C and walking instead of driving when possible.
The next few weeks will be highlighted with Brain Awareness, Epilepsy Awareness and Neurodiagnostic Week. Watch for some fun things ASET is doing to provide awareness to all three areas. While the current pandemic is causing us to change plans, cancel or reschedule events, there are still things we can do for our patients and others around us. Share what you do with those you meet every day. You have a passion for your career, or you wouldn’t be in the field. And above all, two words — Universal Precautions. These came to be during another time of panic and uncertainty and have helped in so many ways. Protect yourself, your patient, your co-workers, your family and those around you by good hygiene and safe practices always!!
ASET has many things coming in the near future. New webinars, online learning, a new Executive Director, new focus for the future and innovation, the Annual Conference in San Diego and many more resources to keep you current in the field and help you achieve your goals. ASET has a great Staff, Board of Trustees, volunteer Committee and Task Force leaders who are supporting you and all you do. Reach out to any of us if there is an area of need. Watch for our recently redesigned website, social media and email posts for information to assist you as you challenge yourself.
As always, feel free to reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you about what we are doing right, could do better or just to say hello. ASET is about the networking as much as the education. I look forward to hearing from you!!
I leave you with this:
I’ve met so many who have opened doors for me and remained in my life both personally and professionally. After a while, networking doesn’t feel like ‘networking.’ It’s both serendipitous and unpredictable, and something that just naturally becomes part of your work life and your personal life. ~Narciso Rodriguez
