Committee Corner – Summer 2020

Formal Education Task Force and Program Directors’ Council

Chair: Mary Ellen Wells, Ph.D., RPSGT, R. EEG T., R.NCS.T.

Educational programs, like all aspects of healthcare, were significantly impacted by COVID-19. Programs were forced to remove their students from clinical rotations and think creatively about ways to continue that aspect of their education. The program directors have been sharing ideas and resources in a monthly, open forum. Special thanks to Melissa Struewing, M.Ed., R. EEG/EP T., CNIM, CLTM from Sinclair Community College for organizing these sessions.

Times like these highlight the need for a strong clinical foundation allowing students to better understand and practice their theoretical classroom knowledge. One way you can help is to become a clinical site for a local or online education program. There are many benefits to being a clinical site and we encourage you to consider this vital opportunity to assist us in growing our profession. For more information about clinical sites, visit the ASET webpage or contact Linda Kelly, Director of Education,

Global Initiatives Task Force

Chair: Trei King, BA, R. EEG T., CNIM

With the onset of COVID19, the Global Initiatives Task Force (GITF) is exploring ways ASET can help during this pandemic. We will be reaching out to those people, projects and organizations involved in global outreach to help identify the needs related to Neurodiagnostics

If you are interested in helping us identify these needs, please email me at or Brian Sullivan at

Membership Committee

Chair: Nicklous Morrisette, R. EEG T., CNIM
First up, I’d like to welcome our new Executive Director, Kevin Helm.  Kevin is a wonderful addition to an already amazing staff at ASET.  I and the Membership Committee are very excited to explore new possibilities, and continue to develop advancements in the collective value of ASET membership.
The Membership Committee is developing a series of member needs and satisfaction surveys to identify areas in which we can improve the benefits of ASET membership.  The first survey has been distributed to the membership and I feel that we received a healthy amount of feedback.  We are in the process of sorting the responses and I’m already looking forward to the next ASET News update where we can share what we’ve learned.
In addition, the Membership Committee continues to produce ads in The Neurodiagnostic Journal.  For the June issue, we created an ad centered on gratitude and appreciation for our Neurodiagnostics community.  The ad also highlighted the ASET website for the latest COVID-19 resources.  For the September issue, we are planning an ad focused on ASET membership renewal, particularly the benefits of auto-renewal.
The “I am ASET” video is currently delayed.  We are working on finding a solution that will result in having a tangible finished product soon.
In some very exciting news, the Membership Committee has begun work on what I believe will be our signature project, a full-featured mobile app for ASET members.  The Committee is building a proposal to present to ASET’s Board of Trustees in August 2021.  The proposal will include a complete work map, feature list, implementation guide, pricing breakdown, timeline for development, and deployment schedule.  I believe that, if done correctly, a mobile app for ASET members can provide substantial benefits in the form of expanded access to member services, and a tighter community bond amongst our neurodiagnostic colleagues.
In closing, to say that 2020 has been a wild ride would probably be the understatement of the century.  Despite all of the societal upheaval that we are currently experiencing, and all of the difficulties associated with COVID-19, I continue to be amazed by the response of my colleagues within the neurodiagnostic community.  The pride and humility that I feel as part of this small slice of society can’t be overstated.  All communities, whether professional or otherwise, are only as strong as the members of that community and the bonds that keep us together.  In that regard, ASET never fails to impress.  Thank you to everyone in ASET for all that you do.  It is a true honor to be included amongst you.

Volunteer & Leadership Development Committee

Co-Chair: Adam Kornegay, MBA, LPN, R. EP T., CNIM, FASET, ASET President-Elect

Co-Chair: Lindsay Joslyn, R. EEG T.

Since the last issue of ASET News, the Volunteer & Leadership Development Committee has been working hard on developing a content outline of the current Leadership Academy modules.  Once the outline is reviewed by the full Committee, decisions will be made about the necessary content updates, changes and/or additions that will keep the Academy relevant, educational and beneficial to the leaders of tomorrow.

The Committee’s members have been actively engaged during this process, and have already provided some excellent and useful insights as we continue to work toward the goal of identifying and educating the future leaders of both ASET and ABRET.
