Chair: Kevin McCarthy, BA, CNIM
As we prepare for what will be a busy year as forty-five states begin their legislative sessions in January with the remaining states following before April, GAC committee members are honing their skills as legislation monitors. These dedicated volunteers watch for bills that impact our profession at the state level. We have multiple committee members who serve in this capacity to help ensure we are aware of bills that are introduced across the country that could potentially change the practice of our profession and determine who may provide neurodiagnostic services. In addition to monitoring all 50 state legislatures, the committee also is tasked with monitoring legislative and regulatory developments at the federal level. These legislation monitors are the eyes and ears of ASET in the public policy arena.
In the meantime, ASET’s public policy staff is working with state chapters and licensure committees on strategies and resources so that the efforts toward licensure will be as coordinated and efficient as possible. State chapters or licensure committees who are interested in scheduling ASET’s presentation on licensure and advocacy, please contact Jennifer Montgomery, Governmental and Grassroots Advocacy Manager, at (816) 944-3249 (direct) or email email@example.com.

- DON’T ASSUME elected officials know about your industry – assume they know nothing about what you do. It is up to you to educate them.
- LET ASET KNOW if an elected official is your friend OR neighbor OR relative OR co-worker, so we can help strategize the best approach to the policy initiative.
- REMEMBER, a successful advocacy campaign is a long-haul proposition. It is not designed for instant gratification.
