ASET Awards First Licensure Grant
Chair: Kevin McCarthy, BA, CNIM
We are pleased to announce that ASET has awarded its first Licensure Grant to the California Chapter of ASET to help them underwrite their licensure legislative efforts. Any ASET Chapter or Licensure Committee is welcome to apply for this funds matching grant. The California Chapter has put the critical pieces in place to move toward an introduction of a licensure bill in the coming state legislative session. This chapter not only has secured the funding for the effort, but also has hired a consultant who assisted them to create a scope of work and draft legislation.
The Governmental Advocacy Committee (GAC) will work with the chapter the help provide resources necessary for them to complete the sunrise document required by the legislature and will assist in crafting the appropriate messaging for the grassroots and legislative campaign. Having effective messaging and data to support the need for licensure for our profession is critical, especially since there are trends toward occupational licensure deregulation. But as we all know, in a profession such as ours where we actually touch patients and can directly impact their health and safety, licensure is a cornerstone to help ensure our patients are properly protected. We will keep you updated as this very important milestone continues to move forward.
In the meantime, any state chapters or licensure committees that are interested in scheduling a conference call or virtual round-table update on licensure and advocacy efforts, please contact Jennifer Montgomery, Director of Operations and Government Affairs, at (816) 944-3249 (direct) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

DON’T ASSUME elected officials know about your industry – assume they know nothing about what you do. It is up to you to educate them.
LET ASET KNOW if an elected official is your friend OR neighbor OR relative OR co-worker, so we can help strategize the best approach to the policy initiative.
REMEMBER, a successful advocacy campaign is a long-haul proposition. It is not designed for instant gratification.
