The Kathy Mears Education Award is given annually to a CAAHEP-accredited NDT training program. The award honors ASET’s Past President, Kathy Mears, and her dedication to the pursuit of further education. The award is split between a deserving student, who exemplifies leadership and academic excellence, and their Program, which can purchase an item(s) that will contribute to the success of that Program.

This year’s winner was Silinda Powell, a student at the Institute of Health Sciences program. Her Program Director, Kellee Trice, described her as “a very motivated, outgoing student who goes above and beyond in everything she does.”

Powell was formerly a certified nursing assistant working in the emergency department looking for a career change and, as fate would have it talked to the EEG technologist one day while doing a test and is now on her way to being a graduate of the IOHS Program. We are so pleased she will be joining our profession and know she will make a positive impact on her patients. Congratulations to both Powell and the IOHS Program.
