We are so glad you are back, our faithful readers and welcome you newbies.  We are so glad to have you join our club. This club is full of amazingly talented individuals who routinely come together to answer your questions about Neurodiagnostics via the Communities section on the ASET Website.  This ASET News edition brings us to why we attend the ASET Annual Conferences.

Personally, I have a list of reasons, primarily I need my squad. “I have met my people!” my oldest daughter shouted so excitedly after her first club meeting, as did I after my first ASET conference. My squad gets why I am so exhilarated about learning more about the brain, the nerves and how they function together.

Don’t we all want to go where everybody knows our name? I sure do. I want to be with my people. I want to be with my “nerd herd” who are so passionate about Neurodiagnostics that it just oozes from them everywhere they go.

Yes, I go for the education, the networking, the introduction to new tools to make my job more efficient. Why should you attend? Why should you choose to go in-person to ASET conferences? What could they mean for you?

Even before the pandemic, I needed to be with people who understood that Neurodiagnostics was not just a job. It is a lifestyle, a passion, an undying curiosity. When I attend the ASET annual conferences, I am warmly welcomed by so many that I feel right at home.

And some of you know by now, I love to learn, and I love to teach. The other educators at the conferences set the bar sky high for the rest of us, and I love that. There is room to continue pushing your limits and continue to excel. Years ago, I was informed during an annual review that I had intimidated others with my knowledge. To be honest, I was devastated, so I sought wisdom from my friend, mentor and supervising neurologist, Dr. Andy Reeves. He said, “Good for you!” He encouraged me to continue learning and to share my knowledge with others The ASET conferences help me do just that.

My fellow Special Interest Section Leaders have taken time to pen their thoughts on why they, too, attend the ASET Annual Conferences as often as possible.  Grab your beverage of choice and settle in for some great reads!

Your friend, colleague, and student, Petra N. Davidson
