I hope all of you are having a safe Holiday Season! As I come to the end of the calendar year, I try to review all that’s occurred, and where I’m headed. I have done this for several years, in both my personal and professional life. I find “the year in review” assists me in taking stock of accomplishments, setbacks, and goals.
This past August in Kansas City, ASET celebrated 60 years of providing support and education to the Neurodiagnostics Community. We reviewed where we’ve been and how far we’ve come. As we look forward to 2020 (and I cannot even believe I’m looking at 2020, where has the time gone!), we are looking forward to many goals.
This Newsletter Interest Section discusses going to your place of employment when you’re ill. It has been my experience, if you have a fever or productive cough, I could not work. Remember, you, your family, your coworkers and your patient are all at risk if you don’t take care of yourself during this cold and flu season. Grandma always said Chicken Soup and Hot Toddies!!
CPT Code Changes
January 1, 2020-the new CPT billing codes for EEG, LTM and EMU monitoring go into effect. The process was followed, and worked on, by a group of professionals; with ASET having a seat and input at the table. We took a stand and sent numerous correspondence on the membership’s behalf. These new codes will cause many staffing and documentation changes. The Education Department is developing some assistance to guide you through these changes, and help you as you go through what needs to be done. Look to the ASET Website right now for free resources in to help understand the changes and look forward to an in-depth webinar January 15th, 2020 for guidance in navigating the new coding structure.
The ASET Office is looking forward to celebrating Neurodiagnostics Week in April. With an increasing presence in Social Media via Facebook and Linked-In, as well as emails to the membership, please watch for what we have for you.
Our Annual Meeting, August 20-22, 2020, will be in San Diego California. I recommend taking some days prior or after the meeting to see a great town, with terrific sites, to complete your trip. Coronado Island, The Hotel Del Coronado, Sea World, San Diego Harbor, Old Town and the San Diego Zoo are just a few of the terrific locations to see. Not to mention the great food, beautiful ocean and mountain views!
ASET continues to work with ABRET, NAEC, ACNS, AANEM, ASNM and others in areas which affect our membership.
On a personal note – I am now a Travel Technologist (8Years), which affords me the opportunity to spend several weeks, to months, a year with my children, their spouses and my grandchildren on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have come to realize my health, my family and my friends are what matters most to me. I am proud of my accomplishments this year, both personally and professionally, and give thanks for all that I have. I am looking forward to better things in 2020!
To all of my ASET friends—Happy Holiday Season, in whatever way you celebrate, and a safe, happy and prosperous 2020! I close with a quote, one of my favorites:
“Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t, and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get the chance, take it! If it changes your life, let it! Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.”
